There’s not much to be optimistic about concerning the impeachment of

Donald Trump. The contemptuous dismissal of the Senate Republicans to the impeachment proceedings is meant to show to the general public what little regard they have for impeachment. They also want to send the signal they will stick to their original plan of getting this over with as quickly as possible. Trump’s disruptive remarks about what’s going on in the Senate, how this is a hoax as if a constitutionally approved remedy for dealing with corruption is made up or his continued disparaging of his opponents in this process only muddies what should normally be a solemn, dignified act of government and turned it into a circus. However, the way Speaker Pelosi has dealt with the proceedings and the members of her caucus and the selection of the impeachment managers have been nothing less than stellar and inspiring. I’m almost afraid to mention the appearance her managers have with what one assumes would be appointees under Obama, but the diversity of the House’s managers is inspiring and more reflective of 21st century America. Unlike the group of 13 Republicans who managed their case against President Bill Clinton, who were all white men, this group of seven managers consists of three women and four men. Two are members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and one is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Once again Americans of all stripes and colors can look at any one of the House managers and see themselves; they can feel proud that capable and competent people were selected for a task as great as reinforcing the Constitution of the United States.
